Crossroads Care Trustee

Crossroads Care

Voluntary (unpaid)
Part Time
South East

What is Crossroads Care, and what does it do?
There are approximately 6 million unpaid carers in the UK including 5.2 million in England and Wales. When we refer to carers we mean someone who looks after a partner, relative or neighbour who needs support because of their sickness, age or disability. The support they provide is unpaid.

· One in eight of all adults are a carer.
· There are 175,000 children and young people with caring responsibilities.
· 1.9 million carers care for more than 20 hours per week.
· 1.25 million carers care for more than 50 hours per week.
· Three out of five people will become a carer at some time in their lives.

Crossroads is the leading provider of practical support for carers in England and Wales. The aim is to give carers time to be themselves, by enabling them to take a much needed break from their caring responsibilities.

What is a Trustee?
A trustee is a member of the management board, who is effectively a director of the charity. Trustees ensure that the organisation has clear strategies and goals which are fully implemented, complies with its governing document, keeps a check on its financial status and, where appropriate, appoints the Chief Executive Officer. Trustees are volunteers and are therefore not paid, but are reimbursed for out of pocket expenses for their involvement in the organisation.

Why should I become a Trustee?
Being an effective and inspiring trustee is a journey and a great challenge, which should be satisfying and fun. Many trustees find working as part of a team and with a ‘hands on’ style in a management board committee hugely energising and satisfying. As a trustee you could help the charity improve people’s lives, through the expansion and development of a local organisation. Trustees come from all walks of life, and being a trustee can help you meet new people, change your community, learn new skills or utilise your existing ones in a new context.

For the Board to be most effective, we need a variety of skills and experience, specifically we are looking for Trustees that could help with:-
· Marketing and Fundraising – to help achieve the goals and objective within the business plan, from writing a marketing plan, to brand building and the all important fundraising activities
· HR – to help with a wide variety of staff and volunteers issues from strategic resource planning and team effectiveness
· Business Development – to help develop all aspects of the business
· All other experiences are most welcome too!

At its heart, being a Trustee for Crossroads Care East Sussex, Brighton & Hove puts you at the centre of the organisation; the more effective the Board of Trustees are, the greater difference you and Crossroads Care can make to the carers and the people they care for.
